Stunning Garden Level conversion of
Grade A listed Building in Park Conservation Area. Set
within an imposing period Townhouse opposite its own well tended
Residents Gardens, and adjacent to the main entrance to
Kelvingrove Park, this elegant and beautifully presented two
bedroom apartment has been finished to a high standard throughout
and boasts truly exceptional entertaining space. The property also
has direct access to the rear to a Resident's private parking area.
The apartment has an extremely large lounge / dining area with original
ornate fireplace. There is a well equipped kitchen in beech faced
units with a breakfasting bar and access to the front of the
property to a private courtyard area. There is a large double
bedroom with en suite overlooking the communal courtyard to the
rear. There is also a small single bedroom with double French doors
leading to the rear courtyard area. Situated moments from the shops, bars
and restaurants of Central Glasgow and within easy reach of
the amenities of the West End, Woodlands Terrace is ideally
located close to the green open spaces of Kelvingrove Park, while
Charing Cross Station is also nearby. Motorists can gain easy access
to the M8 and Clydeside Expressway both only a few minutes drive
away.
History of Property Clairmont
Gardens was built in
1857.
The terrace is thought to have been designed by Charles Wilson
and was designed at the same time as Wilson was developing the
richly modelled elevations of Park Terrace, Park Circus and Park
Quadrant to the north-west of the property. Wilson is widely
regarded to be the major contributor to the character and
architectural beauty of the Park Area and went on to design Trinity
College in 1861 and Queen's Rooms to the west of Clairmont Gardens
shortly afterwards. The facade f Clairmont Gardens is a more
elaborate and articulated terrace than the earlier more robust
architecture of George Smith used at the earlier Park Terraces of
Woodside Terrace and Woodside Place.
By 1857 the Park had already established itself as the foremost
location for the wealthy upper classes of Glasgow society
who were aiming to escape from rapid expansion of Glasgow city
centre. The architecture combines a less restrained use of Victorian
classicism with its projecting ogee corbelled bays at Drawing Room
level and its consolled tripartite doorways replacing the Doric
columns of its predecessors in Woodside Terrace.
